You have tried my heart;
You have visited me by night;
You have tested me and You find nothing;
I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
Psalm 17:3
After reading this verse I found myself thinking about the last part..and Abba led me to the verses Matt 12:34, 15:18 and Luke 6:45. All three basically say that what is in one's heart will be confessed.
So it is our hearts we ask God to redeem and purify, and from the inside the outside is also cleansed. As Jesus cleared up in Mark 7 about the heart of a man. So we must purpose [be determined] that our hearts would not transgress [do wrong; overstep a proper limit]. And God has indeed given us a set of rules (not to be bossy!) to keep, that way we can get the BEST out of this life before our eternal one.
For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:10
